Anemia Basic Panel
Anemia is a condition in which your blood has too few healthy red blood cells or too little hemoglobin to carry enough oxygen to your body's tissues. As a result, your organs and muscles receive less oxygen than they need.
Common symptoms
Fatigue or weakness
Shortness of breath
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Pale skin
Cold hands and feet
Headaches
Rapid or irregular heartbeat
Common causes
Iron deficiency: The most common cause, often due to blood loss, poor diet, or difficulty absorbing iron.
Vitamin deficiencies: Low vitamin B12 or folate can reduce red blood cell production.
Chronic diseases: Conditions such as kidney disease, cancer, or inflammatory diseases can interfere with red blood cell production.
Blood loss: Heavy menstrual periods, gastrointestinal bleeding, surgery, or injury.
Bone marrow disorders: Diseases that affect blood cell production.
Inherited conditions: Such as sickle cell disease or thalassemia.
